Mom....I'm bored!!!!
I was talking to a couple of parents and grandparents about activities their kids could get involved with this summer. So, now…we are making a list of activities to keep kids from getting “bored” this summer! Let me know if you are aware of other activities. Be sure to provide the details. A detailed list will be provided…Dates, Time, Location with address and phone number, and other comments (like snacks, transportation, etc.) If you want a copy of the list, just subscribe to the blog…and you will get a copy when it’s posted!
These free or very affordable activities need to in a healthy and safe environment that fosters inclusion, encouragement, with high morals/values.
Here’s a sampling of the list for Northside kids. It’s still a work in progress.
- 6.27-7.1 9a-12n VBS Triumphant Baptist on Lamb (provide snack)
- 7.5 – 7.29 8:30a-1p Mega Sports Program Triumphant Baptist on Lamb (provide breakfast and lunch) (need to get in early…it’s fills up quickly!)
- 7.11-15 3p-6p VBS STEP @ Eternity Church on Chamberlayne ( provide snack and I am working on transportation if kids will go)
- 7.18-22 9a-12n VBS Commonwealth Chapel (my church) (provide snack) (last year we had transportation. i am verifying for this year.)
- Monday TBD Weekly Missional Community (bible study, crafts and service component)

The Spirit’s presence was upon us as we prayed for the city… specifically for the Northside of Richmond, VA last Sunday, January 9th. We spent time talking about our God-given visions for the Northside. Then, we went into a sweet, powerful time of prayer.
Although the weekly gathering remains somewhat intimate, we would have quite the crowd if everyone showed up! The numbers who frequent are growing with new first-timers coming each month! But, ya’ know…it only takes 2 or 3 to gather together as Christ-followers. And He showed up!

Northside (Sinners and) Saints Gathering

One Richmond. | Tags: Gathering, Northside, prayer, Richmond, RVA, Southern Barton Heights 2 CommentsToday, we had our first gathering of Christ-followers in the Northside, and we look forward to meeting again! It was a blessed afternoon in the presence of the Lord. Thanks to All Souls Presbyterian for hosting us. And..thanks to everyone who attended and helped out! There was a diverse group of 30 people present…from 16 different churches, with no more than 2-3 families/individuals from any one church. People responded to email invitations, phone calls, invitations mailed to the local churches, from the blog post and from Facebook. Most live in the community, although several attend church or serve the community through ministries.
Many of us didn’t know each other. After a short welcome and opening prayer, we spent some time getting to know one another through a normal icebreaker.
- Find 3 people who you haven’t met before and get their name, neighborhood and why they came.
- Find 3 people to finish these 2 sentences…”Our God can….” and “Our community can….”
- Find 3 people to learn 2 things you have in common. Needless to say….it got kinda noisy and energetic….but it was FUN!!!
Then, we broke up into small groups of 6 people and discussed the following questions.
- What has God been doing in Northside? How have you seen God at work in Northside?
- How has the Lord been at work on your street?
- What has God been saying to you? What has scriptures been speaking to you?
- What should we be praying/interceding for?
Lastly, we spent time in prayer for the local church, the community, new ministries, etc. A lot of good stuff came out of our time together; and we hope to do this more often – on a monthly basis. Please join us in praying for the Northside of Richmond!
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. On Earth as it is in Heaven.
