HUH?
02.18.2011
It’s been a year since I started blogging about my life experiences in SBH. It’s no longer written in a story format, but is a mixture of my life in SBH, what the Lord is teaching me, and community stuff going on. Hope you enjoy the read! Peace! Marti

I am learning a lot about this blogging thing. There is A LOT I still don’t get or understand…but, I am figuring it out. If you have taken a look at the most recent post and say to yourself, or aloud even, “HUH?” Let me fill you in…
This blog is a story…each post builds on the previous…telling my story…..God’s story…of how a professional, successful 40+ year old single woman finds herself living in a beautiful, historic part of Richmond, Virginia with a corner park, and lots of foot traffic. Where many of the houses were built at the turn of the century….1900 that is. You might say… “AND???? What is so special about that? It sounds GREAT!”
Well…it also is a low-income community that is 97% Black/African-American, some homelessness and significant street crime such as drug deals, prostitution, etc., absentee fathers, single moms, boarded up and foreclosed homes.
This is the story of how I came to live here…in Southern Barton Heights (SBH) in 2005…and the many WONDERFUL people I have met, many sad or inspiring stories I have heard, and the countless things I have learned about myself, my God, and mankind.
It’s a Lenten project. The Lord (and some friends) have been encouraging me to document these stories…so, I am finally doing something about it. I am posting every day for Lent, 2010. We’ll see what happens after that…
I value your comments, thoughts, and reflections. So, I encourage you to comment anytime. Ask questions if you want! If I don’t provide enough detail…sometimes it is to protect the confidences of the people involved. Sometimes…it’s simply an omission. So…Ask!
I pray that this true story inspires and encourages you. I pray it brings glory to God and always points to the Cross.

Great stuff Marti. I’ll try to keep up.
Thanks, Lowell!!! Appreciate your support!
